RRVT Improvements Project
Replacement of 13.7 Miles of Asphalt Trail
KEY PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
-
Promote a safer and more enjoyable trail experience,
-
Reduce long-term maintenance costs,
-
enhance economic and tourism opportunities, and
-
promote sustainability and public health.
Over time, Iowa's hard winters have caused significant "wear and tear" on the asphalt, leading to an uneven and increasingly unsafe trail experience for users. This improvements project will replace 13.7 miles of deteriorating asphalt from Yale, Iowa, to Winkleman's Switch, just south of Jefferson, Iowa, with a 6-inch-thick Portland Cement Concrete surface.
Replacing the aging asphalt with durable concrete will extend the trail's lifespan and reduce long-term maintenance costs, making sure that this vital asset continues to serve the needs of residents and visitors for decades to come.
This segment is part of a larger recreational trail system that connects multiple cities and counties, promoting strong regional ties and supporting recreation opportunities. This project aligns with local, state, and federal priorities by enhancing recreational infrastructure, supporting economic development, and promoting sustainability and public health.
Securing funding for this initiative will continue the success of the Raccoon River Valley Trail as a cornerstone of the region's recreational and economic vitality.
